Here it is: <em>A bought neckerchief slide is gonna get lost; a hand-made slide, never!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve seen lots of photos of Scouts recently. Some are of boys in their Scouts BSA troops, and some are of girls in their Scouts BSA troops. Most are in pretty good uniforms\u2014especially the girls, by the way! But their neckerchiefs? <em>Ouch!<\/em> They\u2019re disasters!<\/p>\n<p>Yup, some neckerchiefs are well-rolled, with their \u201ctails\u201d kept in place by slides. Sometimes, these slides are the official ones Scout shops sell, but more often they\u2019re rubber bands or a length of string or\u2014occasionally\u2014a shotgun shell brought back from summer camp and cut to accommodate the neckerchief\u2019s tails.<\/p>\n<p>But mostly they\u2019re tied\u2026not with the \u201cfriendship knot\u201d and the ends of the tails, as is done in many foreign Scout associations, but, instead, somewhere below the chin, making the neckerchief look more like a scarf or mis-tied ascot. <em>Ugh!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s as if nobody\u2019s taken the time to look in their Scout Handbook (or checked out <em>www.bsahandbook.org<\/em>), where there\u2019s a specific guide on how to roll your neckerchief and keep it is place with a neckerchief slide\u2014<em>never a knot!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I still have the very first slide I made for myself\u2026 Yup, it\u2019s well over 60 years old and, of course, since I made it by myself,<em> I never lost it!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wouldn\u2019t this be an absolutely perfect time for every Scout and uniformed adult leader in your troop to make their own personal slide!<\/p>\n<p>They can be carved (as a Scout I carved the Indian head, the longhorn steer, a Viking\u2014<em>my own design<\/em>\u2014and a bunch of others).<\/p>\n<p>They can be braided into a \u201cTurk\u2019s head\u201d (these are really cool to make\u2014I have a bunch of them, made from pre-woven lanyard material, leather thongs, and\u2014<em>the easiest to find at any hardware or outdoor store<\/em>\u2014parachute cord!).<\/p>\n<p>They can also be made from plaster-of-Paris molds and then hand-painted!<\/p>\n<p>These can be a fun \u201csolo\u201d activity or even a contest for the most creative, most colorful, most artistic, and so on!<\/p>\n<p>Not only will your Scouts have an activity they can do at home, but just think about how cool your troop is going to look once we\u2019re all able to meet together again!<\/p>\n<p><em>Till next week, please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay positive!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>Happy Scoutin<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">g!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong><em>Andy<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Have a question?
